Retro Valentine's Day themed Photoshoot in Manchester
Celebrating the season of love with a bespoke Valentine’s Day-themed creative Photoshoot.
Come behind the scenes with me and model Lollo, to create a retro-style Valentine’s Day-themed photoshoot inspired by vintage pin-up photoshoots, retro Valentine’s Day cards, and dreamlike scenes. Read more about the process of this photoshoot below.
The idea
The process of photographing a creative photoshoot starts with an idea, this could be something I’ve seen in a film, on TV, or in a magazine or book, it can also be something I have seen on Social Media that sparks an idea or even a dream I’ve had. In this instance, I have been inspired by retro Valentine’s Day cards and pin-up paintings by American painter Gil Elvgren.
Pre-shoot Prep
Once the date has been arranged the first thing I do is make a shot and prop list. Depending on the length of time I have for a shoot, I come up with a set amount of ideas with props to match the look and style of the photoshoot. This ensures things run smoothly on the day so I can focus on taking photos and we also have enough props to experiment with. For this particular photo shoot myself and Lollo discussed outfit options and decided on a red body suit, that had lots of gorgeous red tulle on the shoulders for extra drama, the shape of the bodice also gave a nod to to a heart shape.
Photoshoot Day
Taken in the heart of Manchester, UK but photographed indoors on this particular occasion against dusky pink curtains. For this photoshoot, I incorporated a variety of charming props, that added a whimsical touch to each image. Vintage red telephone, delicate pink and red roses flower arrangements, and cute Valentine’s gifts.
Post Photoshoot and the edit
After the photo shoot, I always look through all the images and save them to a digital cloud. If I’m not on another photoshoot that day I will begin to do the first edit and get rid of any repeat images, images that haven’t worked, etc. Then I will go through and edit using a mixture of Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop. I never over-edit and change my client’s features, it’s more a case of removing the odd spot or fly away hair.
Love is Love
I believe in celebrating love in all its forms. Same-sex couples, long-time partners, newlyweds, and all who are between are welcome. Each photo shoot is a testament to the belief that love knows no boundaries, and it deserves to be celebrated in all its beautiful forms.
