WHO IS PHOTO + FLOURISH?
Photo+Flourish was created in August 2019 by Jodie Thackray, in response to working for brands that create unnecessary amounts of waste, have poor working conditions for the people who make their products, create toxic chemicals/dyes/beauty products etc. I thought to myself, there has to be a better way! So I now only work for people who are helping/inspiring others, make products that are sustainably made with care and consideration for our planet.
HOW DID YOU GET INTO PHOTOGRAPHY?
I got into photography after buying my first film camera from a carboot sale at the age of 15. I became fascinated by documenting the world around me and went on to study this at A Level then at University. When I left university I worked in a camera shop, gaining key technical skills, I also created my own styled photoshoots outside of work. Two years later I began working as a Photographic Stylist, at two leading photography studios in Manchester, working for Interior and Fashion brands. Since April 2019 I have worked for myself then in August 2019 Photo and Flourish was born (initially named Styling Sustainably).
DO YOU HAVE YOUR OWN STUDIO?
No - I take photos mainly on location. I can book a studio for projects but I mainly photograph products and people on location, to suit a particular brief.
DO YOU USE PHOTOGRAPHY LIGHTS?
Yes - I do when I am shooting products or I use natural light depending on the brief. When I am shooting portraits I love to use natural light as it creates a much more relaxed atmosphere on a shoot.
HOW DO YOU EDIT THE PHOTOGRAPHS? DO YOU AIRBRUSH YOUR IMAGES?
No - my style is to keep things natural. For portraits I will remove spots/blemishes, remove any unwanted marks etc from clothing or flyaway hairs if necessary. However, if you require further work on skin/hair I would have to outsource this at an extra cost.
WHO OWNS THE COPYRIGHT OF THE IMAGES?
I own the copyright of the image/images however my clients can use the images where they like as long as I receive a credit. You can tag @photoandflourish on Instagram and or my website www.photoandflourish.com.
DO YOU TAKE PHOTOGRAPHS OF PETS AND OR CHILDREN?
I can take pet photographs on request but I don’t specialise in photographing families, children. I can recommend other photographers however.
HOW MANY IMAGES CAN YOU SHOOT IN A DAY?
For product photography it depends on the brief, products, styling required. I work efficiently to maximise the time, so that you receive as many great images as possible! When sending an enquiry please provide as much information as you can, so that I can provide you with the most accurate estimate of time and cost.
HOW MANY AMENDMENTS OF A SHOT AM I ALLOWED BEFORE I AM CHARGED?
1 free amendment. After this I will have to charge for changes to a shot that has already been photographed, styled and edited. I only say this as it takes time to set up, shoot and if any food is involved it will need to be bought again then edited; so having to make amendments will take extra time.
DO I NEED TO PROVIDE PROPS and or BACKGROUNDS?
It’s up to you. I have a small selection of props and backgrounds but if there is something specific you would like this will cost extra or you can provide the props and or background yourself.
I’M NOT SURE WHAT I WOULD LIKE MY PRODUCT OR PORTRAIT TO LOOK LIKE?
Not a problem! I include a free initial inspiration mood board if you’re not sure how you would like your images to look. I will then send to you for approval so we can work together to create the look and feel you’re after!
HOW WILL I RECEIVE THE IMAGES?
I usually send via We transfer to your email address. It is easy to download all your photographs and you have 7 days to do so. I can also crop the images to suit your website or social media.
WHAT MADE YOU FOCUS ON SUSTAINABILITY AND SMALL BUSINESSES?
After working with some brands that put sustainability and the environment at the bottom of their priority list, I realised that it wasn’t something I wanted to be apart of. I love to work with people and businesses that are doing good things for others and the planet!

My services page features rough guides as to how much a shoot will cost and types of services I offer. The best way is to get in touch at hello@photoandflourish.com if you would like to ask any other questions. My rate includes sourcing, styling, photographing and editing. If required, I charge extra for props, furniture and backgrounds. If you would like a photoshoot or project to take place further than a 1 hour drive from Manchester, I will charge for travel costs.
